First Assassin's Creed Movie clip sees painful introduction to the Animus

Since it was introduced to video game players in 2007 and spawning a line of games full of memorable characters and storylines, Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed series is about to embark in a bold new direction by introducing the series into the big screen with X-Men Movies star Michael Fassbender headlining the debut feature film. Beginning development in 2011 and finally seeing release this holiday season, the film tells the story of criminal Callum Lynch, who is rescued from his own execution by Abstergo Industries and chosen as a test subject to relive the memories of his ancestor - an Assassin named Aguilar who lived during the time of the Spanish Inquisition.

To promote the release of the upcoming film, 20th Century Fox and Ubisoft Entertainment have released the first clip for the movie – which shows Fassbender as Callum being “introduced” to the Animus. In the games, the Animus is a futuristic piece of tech that allows the user to sit comfortably in a chair and dive into the genetic memories residing within their bodies to relive the lives of their ancestors. In the film, it’s much more painful to look at – as it is an intimidating robotic arm that works with a neuro spike device attached to the back of the user’s vertebrae.

Also starring Academy Award-winning French actress Marion Cotillard as the leading Abstergo scientist that puts Callum through the Animus, Assassin Creed will be the first film that Ubisoft puts out with their new film division, so it will be good to see how the movie performs when it is released in theaters this December 16 in the US. — TJD, GMA News
