Animation shows how narrowly Air Canada plane missed PAL flight 115

The Bay Area News Group on Wednesday released an animated video that tracks the disaster that almost struck the San Francisco International Airport (SFO) on July 7.

The video, made with data from FlightAware, shows how close Air Canada flight 759 came to hitting other planes in the runway, including Philippine Airlines flight 115.

The two planes were only 51 feet apart.

Air Canada flight 759 was cleared to land in runway 28R, but instead made a descent in a parallel taxiway where four other planes were waiting for clearance to take off.

Federal regulators are currently investigating the incident, which could have ended as one of the worst in history. — AT/LA/KVD, GMA News
