Pope Francis' encyclical on the environment "Laudato Sii" can get people together not only to protect the ecology but also to effect reforms in politics, a priest chairing an ecological group said.

Fr. Pete Montallana, chairman of the Save Sierra Madre Alliance, said the encyclical should serve to "wake up" people and have them demand positive action from their leaders.

Pope Francis last June 18 released the encyclical that calls for caring for the environment.

Montallana said this should also bring people closer to God.

He said reading the encyclical will let one appreciate all of God's creations.

Joel Locsin/LBG, GMA News
