The Vatican on Wednesday evening (PHL time) announced Pope Francis' appointment of a new bishop to head the Apostolic Vicariate of Bontoc-Lagawe, the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines has said.

The CBCP said the Vatican announced the appointment of Fr. Valentin Dimoc as bishop-elect at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

"Bishop-elect Dimoc will the fifth bishop of the vicariate, which covers the two civil provinces of Ifugao and the Mountain Province," the CBCP said.

No date has been set for his episcopal ordination and installation as bishop of Bontoc-Lagawe.

Dimoc is presently the vicariate’s social action and development center director and rector of the Mission Station of Ayangan.

The CBCP said the vicariate has been without a bishop since January 2013, after Bishop Rodolfo Beltran was installed as bishop of La Union.

From 2013 to now, the vicariate was led Fr. Joseph Requino, who was named administrator by the Vatican.

On the other hand, the CBCP said Dimoc's appointment makes him the 133rd member of the CBCP. -Joel Locsin/NB, GMA News
