The 40 Jesuits priests who met Pope Francis during his visit in the Philippines serenaded him as a thanks for the opportunity.

In a minute-long video shared by Fr. Archie Carampatan, the Jesuits are seen gathered around the Pope, and began singing Fr. Manoling Francisco's "Amare et Servire" (To Love and Serve) as the Pope were still greeting some of them.

In the middle of the song, the Pope began listening with a somber expression, his head bowed.

In his post, Carampatan said: "This was kinda impromptu as Fr. Jose Quilongquilong, while we were waiting for Pope Francis to arrive from MOA Arena, suggested that we sing to the Holy Father at the end of the meeting."

The Pope met with 40 Jesuits at the Apostolic Nunciature in Manila, after his encounter with families at the SM Mall of Asia Arena last Friday.

According to Vatican Press Office director Fr. Federico Lombardi, Pope Francis—the first Jesuit to take the helm of the Roman Catholic Church—normally meets his fellow Jesuits in the places that he visits.

A report on 24 Oras on Monday said the Pope told the Jesuits of his admiration for the Filipinos.

The meeting lasted nearly an hour, despite the Pope's early flight to Tacloban City the following morning, it added. — Rose-An Jessica Dioquino/VC, GMA News
