Well-wishers began to fill the tarmac of Villamor Air Base early Monday to say goodbye to Pope Francis, hours before his scheduled departure to Rome.

The Pope, who is to leave before noon, is concluding his five-day visit to the Philippines.

A chartered Philippine Airlines Airbus A340 aircraft that would take the Pope to Rome was at the ramp shortly after 6 a.m., radio dzBB's Rowena Salvacion reported.

Well-wishers gathered at the tarmac started to chant "Pope Francis, we love you," the organizers said in a tweeted photo.

Meanwhile, people also continued to gather at the route from the Apostolic Nunciature to the Villamor Air Base.

Some even occupied the elevated portion of the Skyway to get a good look of the papal convoy, dzBB's Allan Gatus reported.

People also gathered at Airport Road and Circulo del Mundo to Villamor, dzBB's Nimfa Ravelo added.

Well-wishers gathered also under the EDSA-Roxas Boulevard flyover, dzBB's Manny Vargas said.
