A devotee on Monday expressed her thanks to Pope Francis for visiting the Philippines and touching Filipinos' hearts - by giving away religious items such as rosaries.

Lola Socorro was among the Filipinos who stayed outside the Apostolic Nunciature early Monday, hours before the pope is to depart for Rome, radio dzBB's Glen Juego reported.

"Kailangan magpasalamat kami ... Sabi ni Pope, Mama Mary will never fail us," she told dzBB's Juego.

She said she is thankful because she underwent a successful operation for meningitis, while her husband survived a heart attack.

Thus, she said their going to the Nunciature to see the Pope was their way of giving thanks.

"Yung husband ko nagka-heart attack pero nakalakad. Siya ang nag-encourage sa akin pumunta rito," she said.

She added she does not mind getting wet in the rain waiting for the pope. Joel Locsin/LBG, GMA News
