After mass, Pope Francis goes around Luneta to bless faithful

After presiding over his concluding Mass at the Quirino Grandstand, Pope Francis went around the Luneta to bless the faithful  who had gathered there to see him.

The Pope, donning a yellow raincoat, stood at the back of a jeepney-themed Popemobile that weaved its way around the park.

The Quirino Grandstand crowd was divided into quadrants and the pontiff's ride went around through the spaces in between.

Devotees, many of whom had camped out at the area since Saturday, cheered him on, bringing up images of the Santo Niño (Child Jesus) for him to bless.

The Catholic Church has earlier asked the devotees of the Sto. Niño to bring their images of the Baby Jesus to the event so that it will be blessed by the Holy Father.

Before making his way to the Popemobile to make his rounds, Pope Francis was greeted by the highest officials in the land — President Benigno Aquino III and Vice President Jejomar Binay.

The head of the Catholic Church is in the penultimate day of his five-day state and apostolic visit to the Philippines. Joel Locsin/JST, GMA News
