Filipino devotees at the University of Santo Tomas (UST) didn't run out of creative ways to get a perfect view of Pope Francis on Sunday, January 18, some even scrambling for trees, light posts, or whatever higher ground they could find.

People rushed near the barricades as soon as the Pope entered the campus.

Those who were not lucky to find a place near the barricades, immediately climbed trees and light posts.

Some stood on a plant box to catch a glimpse of the Pope.

The 78-year-old Pope met with 10 leaders of different religions at the university's Arch of the Centuries and some 24,000 youth sector representatives at the UST grandstand.

Pope Francis was the third pontiff to visit the oldest existing university in Asia, following the visits of Blessed Paul VI in 1970, and Saint John Paul II, who went there in 1981 and in 1995. — TJD, GMA News
