PISTON protests vs. Delgra, jeepney modernization anew

Pinagkaisang Samahan ng mga Tsuper at Operators Nationwide on Monday launched a protest action against the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board as it slammed chairman Martin Delgra III and the mandatory franchise consolidation under the jeepney modernization program.

According to a report on GMA News TV's Balitanghali on Monday by Bernadette Reyes, Delgra supposedly withdrew his statement in a previous hearing as regards the implementation of the mandatory franchise consolidation.

Delgra said the LTFRB can hold first its implementation after calls from senators; but the next day, he took back his statements.

PISTON also denounced the fee of the new fare matrix implemented by the LTFRB.

The agency is charging a total of P560 for the fare matrix (P510 for the regulatory fee and P50 for the fare matrix itself) so that jeepney drivers and operators can legally charge passengers with the minimum fare of P10.

Meanwhile, the transport group also voiced out that it is in favor of jeepney fare rollback if the price of diesel will range from P36 to P37 per liter.
