Koko, Villar dispute Joma's claim on Duterte's health

At least two senators on Monday that President Rodrigo Duterte has gone into coma as claimed by Communist Party of the Philippines founding chairman Jose Maria Sison.

Senator Aquilino Pimentel III, president of the ruling Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban), said the public should not believe someone who is miles away from the country.

“The President is healthy. Why believe and report of someone hundreds of kilometers away in Europe?” he said in a message to reporters.

Sison, in a post on his Facebook account, said those who saw Duterte during the national convention of his San Beda Law fraternity Lex Talionis Fraternitas on Saturday “reported that the darkness of his face had become aggravated from its appearance the other day and that his walk and handshake had become more unstable.”

Senator Cynthia Villar said Duterte looked healthy when she saw him in Davao City last Friday.

“He was in Davao Friday, eh ang saya-saya niya, galit na galit na naman dun sa mga corrupt. Paano namang nagkasakit ‘yun?” she told reporters when asked on the matter.

“Tuwang-tuwa nga siya nagpapakuha dun sa mga barangay officials ng Davao City kasi that is the first time na nakapagpakuha sila ng picture after he became President. ‘Yun ang first time  so pinapila nilang lahat, katagal-tagal. I don’t think there is a problem,” Villar added.

She said she also does not see the need for a medical bulletin to prove Duterte’s health condition.

Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo, Special Assistant to the President Christopher “Bong” Go, and Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque have all denied Sison's claim. —KBK, GMA News
