Palace suspends gov't work, classes in public schools in Metro Manila due to inclement weather

Malacañang suspended work in government offices and classes in public schools in all levels in Metro Manila effective Tuesday afternoon due to inclement weather brought about by the enhanced southwest monsoon.

Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea issued Memorandum Circular 47 declaring that work in government offices and classes in all public schools in the capital region are suspended beginning 1 p.m. Tuesday.

“However, those agencies whose functions involve the delivery of basic and health services, preparedness/response to disasters and calamities, and/or the performance of other vital services shall continue with their operations and render the necessary services,” the circular stated.

The Palace left to the heads of the private offices, companies, and schools to decide on the suspension.

Acting Chief Justice Antonio Carpio had already ordered the half-day suspension of work at the Supreme Court, citing continuous rain and flooding in areas leading to the high tribunal’s compound in Manila.

The Senate also called off work due to the bad weather. —KBK, GMA News
