NSA: Duterte briefed about Marawi clashes, will continue visit in Russia
President Rodrigo Duterte had been briefed about the clash between the military and lawless armed groups in Marawi City but would continue his official visit in Russia, National Securiy Adviser Hermogenes Esperon said on Tuesday.
Esperon said that Duterte would push through with his activities in Russia, which include a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
"Tuloy pa rin," Esperon said.
Esperon said he would discuss with Duterte how the incident in Marawi City would affect the trip.
Duterte is scheduled to make a stop in Dubai, United Arab Emirates after Russia.
Esperon said security forces were conducting an operation in Marawi City to pursue a high-value target.
"The order is to pursue. Keep pressing... Keep in mind the safety of the civilians," he said.
Reports indicate that Abu Sayyaf Group leader Isnilon Hapilon was sighted in the area. —NB, GMA News
