NCRPO: Sept. 21 martial law anniversary events were 'peaceful'

National Capital Region Police Office chief Director Guillermo Eleazar on Saturday said the rallies conducted on Friday during the 46th anniversary of the declaration of Martial Law were "very peaceful."

"Very peaceful at maayos ang pagdaraos nitong mga programa ng grupo nitong mga pro at anti dito sa may Roxas Boulevard at sa Luneta," Eleazar said in an interview on Super Radyo dzBB.

Eleazar said they were expecting no trouble since they were able to hold a dialogue with the leaders of the groups regarding maintaining peace and order during the rallies.

"'Yun naman 'yung ating ine-expect dahil nagkaroon ng magandang preparasyon lalo na 'yung dialogues na ginawa natin between the PNP [Philippine National Police] and leaders of the groups that will be joining the program," he added.

On Friday, groups loyal to President Rodrigo Duterte flocked to Luneta.

On the other side of Luneta, groups denouncing the imposition of martial law by the late President Ferdinand Marcos also gathered.

Police officers stayed in the middle to prevent the two groups from meeting.

Eleazar said the PNP adjusted its deployment based on the dialogues with the groups.

The NCRPO chief said they sent at least 12,000 police personnel to maintain peace and order and be alert for any untoward incident.

Duterte earlier said there was a destabilization plot being organized by groups for September 21.

"Sa ating monitoring, wala namang significant events na nangyari," Eleazar said.

The NCRPO chief said the PNP continuously coordinated with other government agencies and the Armed Forces of the Philippines to monitor any destabilization move that may be launched. —KG, GMA News
