Expanded SRP to take effect Wednesday

The expanded suggested retail price (SRP) on prime commodities and basic commodities (BNPC) would take effect beginning Wednesday, the Trade and Industry Departement announced.

According to DTI Undersecretary Ruth Castelo, they had included premium brands in the new SRP to inform consumers of other existing brands.

They would thus have a wider range of products to choose from.

"Example: canned sardines. We have 40 brands pero ang may SRP lang tayo ay seven brands," Castelo pointed out.

"In-expand na rin para magkaroon ng wider choices ang consumers so both premium at medyo budget brand meron na tayo SRP for the information ng mga mamimili."

The expanded SRP included premium brands of sardines, meat loaf, evaporated and condensed milk, candles, and coffee.

However, Castelo explained that the SRP did not mean that the government controled prices of BNPCs.

"It's a price guide para alam magkano talaga ang presyo ng bilihin kung reasonable siya," the undersecretary added. — DVM/KG, GMA News
