TRAIN gets okay despite questioned quorum in House

The Senate and the House of Representatives ratified the bicameral conference committee report on the Duterte administration's Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion or TRAIN bill on Wednesday night.

Opposition congressmen, however, are questioning the validity of the House ratification in the plenary after the approval came despite a lawmaker's loud objection over an apparent lack of quorum.

As seen in Tricia Zafra's report on "24 Oras", ACT party-list Representative Antonio Tinio voiced his objection questioning the quorum but the night's presiding officer Deputy Speaker Raneo Abu went on with the motions of ratifying the measure on the motion of Deputy Majority Leader Arthur Defensor.

"Garapalang panggago ito sa taong bayan lalo na sa mga mahihirap... Hindi ito renaing ng kalsada," Tinio said.

"His right should have been recognized and sdiscussions on his objection hsould have been made," said opposition leader Albay Representative Edcel Lagman.

GMA News has reached out to Abu for his but has yet to reply as of posting time. —NB, GMA News
