Manila Water stands by P120K bill of Rizal customer

Manila Water Company Inc. stood by the three-month water bill worth over P120,000 of a customer in Taytay, Rizal who called it “absurd.”

According to a “24 Oras” report on Wednesday, Manila Water’s territory manager Mark Torres paid a visit to the home of Peter Legaspi after the company’s billing team noted the unusual increase in his bill.

Legaspi earlier said his water bill only ranges from P200 to P1,000 monthly.

"Mr. Torres was able to verify that the reading reflected in the billing was based on actual consumption between the months of April to June,” Manila Water maintained.

"Mr. Torres went back the following day and was able to speak to Mr. Peter Legaspi and his father (who is staying in the residence). It was then that Peter admitted that 'Nagkaroon ng leak at kaka-repair lang namin,’” it added.

The company said it gave Legaspi the option to pay the bill in staggered installments through promissory notes.

"The Legaspis still refused to accept the billing,” Manila Water said.

The water concessionaire said it would conduct a meter testing on July 30 to resolve the issue. —Julia Mari Ornedo/LDF, GMA News
