Meralco electricity rates to go up in Feb.

The Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) said Thursday the electricity rate will increase by P1.08 per kilowatt-hour (/kWh) this February, but it will not implement the full amount just yet.

The increase was mainly due to an P0.85/kWh adjustment in the pass-thru generation charge, the company said.

In the interest of consumer welfare, the electricity rate hike will not be implemented in full, it said

“The distribution utility advised the public to await the official announcement on the final rate adjustment for February, and how the remainder of the increase will be implemented,” the company noted. —Ted Cordero/VDS, GMA News
