DICT: China Telecom FB page raffling free 1yr 200Mbps subscription is fake

The Department of Information and Communications Technology confirmed on Friday that the China Telecom Philippines Facebook page making rounds on social media is fake.

"Confirmed na fake po 'yun, fake FB page ng China Telecomm. We already confirmed it sa China Telecom and in fact pinapatanggal na nila sa Facebook," DICT officer-in-charge Eliseo Rio told GMA News Online.

In its earlier post, the Facebook page in question is asking netizens if the Chinese telecommunications firm is welcome in the Philippines for a chance to win a free one year subscription of 200 megabits per second (Mbps) internet speed when it opens in the country.

The social media page change its name from China Telecom Philippines to CTPG Philippines, saying it was "required" by Facebook.

Rio advised netizens to be vigilant in sharing and believing posts seen on social media.

"Bago siguro i-share ang mga nakita sa social media, siguraduhin muna na ito ay hindi fake... If its too good to be true then it's not rue," the DICT official said. —LBG, GMA News
