STARTING JULY 17

Ride-sharing service Grab no longer accepting new vehicles

App-based ride-sharing service Grab Philippines will stop accepting new vehicles to its platform starting July 17.

"Nag-post na po kami sa aming page na hindi na po kami magpapatuloy ng activation simula Monday. Ibig sabihin po nito, hindi na kami maka-ka-accept ng bagong miyembro o bagong sasakyan sa platform namin," Grab Philippines country head Brian Cu said in a phone interview on GMA News' "QRT."

"Monday po, titigil na po ang pag-akyat namin ng new vehicles to the platform," Cu added.

In a separate post on Facebook, Cu said the decision not to accept and activate new vehicles took into consideration the safety and welfare of current partners.

"We know that there are still many of you who want to join the Grab platform, but we need to ensure that our existing partners are not placed at unnecessary risk," Cu said.

Cu clarified that ride-sharing service would continue operating.

"Doon po sa operations namin, siyempre tuloy pa rin ang pagserbisyo namin sa mga pasahero at pag-accept ng current drivers on the platform na tumanggap ng mga booking," Cu said.

On Tuesday, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) imposed a P5 million fine on Uber and Grab for violating the terms and conditions of the accreditation agreement. These include allowing transport network vehicle service drivers to operate without a certificate of public convenience franchise or provisional authority.

Despite the penalty, the LTFRB allowed both firms to continue operating in the country.
