IT-BPM industry aspires to generate $39B in revenue by 2022

The Philippine Information Technology and Business Process Management (IT-BPM) seeks to generate as much as $39 billion in revenue over the next six years, in line with the industry's 2022 Roadmap launched on Thursday.

"We are now aspiring to grow by 1.8 million employees and close to $39 billion of revenue in the next six years," Lito Tayag, trustee and vice chairman of the IT & Business Process Association (IBPAP) of the Philippines, told reporters in a briefing in Pasay City. He is also the Philippine managing director of Accenture Inc.

Seventy-three percent of the projected jobs are mid- to high-value positions, with more than 500,000 jobs to be generated outside of Metro Manila.

"About four out of 10 new jobs are going outside the National Capital Region (NCR). This is the most aggressive we've been," said Benedict Hernandez, executive chair and CEO of the IBPAP and concurrent president of the Contact Center Association of the Philippines (CCAP).

The 1.3 million jobs and $25 billion in revenue under the previous six-year plan – Roadmap 2016 – were not fully reached by the business process outsourcing sector. Tayag noted only 1.15 million new jobs and $22 billion in revenue were generated.

Even if the industry fell short of previous goals, the IBPAP noted the country is globally competitive.

"As an entire ecosystem we are still in a very good spot with our competitors. It's a vibrant business environment we have here in the Philippines," said IBPAP Trustee Catherine Salceda Ileto, who is also a senior director and Asia Pacific leader of Marketing and Public Relations at Sutherland Global Services.

"The successful implementation of Roadmap 2022 can only be achieved with the help of all the subsectors and stakeholders from both private and public sectors, within and outside the industry," Danilo Sebastian Reyes, IBPAP chairman of the Board of Trustees, said in a separate statement.

"With this Roadmap being our bible for growth and innovation, we are hopeful that the Philippines will continuously enjoy strong economic growth through the IT-BPM industry," Reyes said. — VDS, GMA News
