Japanese war tunnel among latest travel destinations up north

Summer is coming up, and there could be no better place to explore than our very own islands.

Many Filipinos may not know that the latest tourist attraction in the north was discovered by students in Ilagan, Isabela as they were playing in a vacant lot behind their school.

The Japanese War Tunnel that served as a hiding place for soldiers during the second World War is now home to war planes and actors in Japanese costume who take tourists back to 75 years ago through several performances and tours.

According to the local government of Isabela, the War Tunnel has been among the top tourist destinations since it opened to the public.

Aside from a historic throwback, the North also offers refreshment and relaxation in the form of a breathtaking dam in Dingras, Ilocos Norte.

Madongan Dam features cold and clean water, as well as a waterfalls-like structure.

It does not stop there, as the province of Ilocos Sur also has so much more to offer.

The province's pride is the famous preserved colonial city of Vigan. After taking a tour around the historic streets that will them back in time when barong and baro't saya was in style, tourists may enjoy the colorful dancing fountain every day at 8:30 p.m—a project by the provincial government of Ilocos Sur.
