We soon won’t find FHM, Yes!, and other Summit mags in newsstands
On Wednesday, April 11, the biggest magazine publishing house in the country, announced it has completed its full digital transformation.
Summit Media announced “it can now be called Digital First as it bids farewell to its magazine past, closing the six remaining print editions of the brands already thriving online as Cosmo.ph, Preview.ph, Pep.ph, Topgear.com.ph, FHM.com.ph, and Townandcountry.ph.”
What it means is that we will soon no longer see and be able to buy FHM, Yes!, Cosmo, Preview, Town and Country, Top Gear magazines in newsstands and bookstores. Bummer.
According to insiders, their final issues will be in May 2018.
In her official statement, Summit Media president Lisa Gokongwei-Cheng promised to “continue our relentless pursuit and delivery of quality, up-to-the minute content and dynamic and engaging editorial experience – this time, aided by data, which now pervades and informs many of our editorial decisions.”
Summit Media was the leading magazine publisher in the Philippines. It first launched Preview Magazine in June 1995 and soon carried local franchises of international titles such as Cosmopolitan, FHM, Top Gear, Men’s Health, Women’s Health, and Seventeen.
At its biggest, Summit ran around 30 magazine titles. In the last few years, however, Summit has paid more attention to its digital business as audiences and advertisers moved online. Slowly, Summit shut down its print editions until only six magazines remained.
“Summit Media was born auspiciously in an era of pulp and ink. We will always owe a debt of gratitude to the medium, to the brilliant teams whose dedication and efforts created magazines that excelled in that landscape, to the generations of loyal readers who not only supported their favorite brands but even imbibed their tenets and values, and to our advertisers, without whose partnership with and belief in us we would not have succeeded,” Gokongwei-Cheng said.
We don't know about you, but we're expecting stellar May 2018 print issues of these titles. — LA, GMA News
