AsiaPop Comicon Manila 2017 promises a 'bigger and better' pop culture experience
The third edition of AsiaPop Comicon is happening this weekend at the SMX Convention Center and according to organizers who met with the press on Wednesday, it looks like a new wave of activities, workshops, cosplay competition, and opportunities to meet and greet celebrities and guests from the local and international scene will be unleashed.
At the press conference at The Conrad, members of the media were treated to a sneak peek of celebrities that guests can expect at the convention. Present were famous comic book artists Whilce Portacio and Carl Potts, visual artist Quiccs, Tokidoki creator Simone Legno, and beloved cosplay personalities Jinbehindinfinity and Haiden Hazard.
Those attending AsiaPop Comicon Manila this year can look forward to a diverse pool of talent visiting the Philippines for the first time. They include Cyborg actor Ray Fisher, who will star in this year’s superhero blockbuster movie “Justice League”, and “Teen Wolf” and “Supergirl” star Tyler Hoeclin.
"Overwatch" fans will also be happy to know that Genji voice actor Gaku Space will be joining the festivities, as well as several cast members of “Stranger Things”, who will be dropping by for a Netflix panel to be held in “Hall N”. According to organizers, there will also be a screening of the Netflix's adaptation of the popular Japanese manga series “Death Note”.
Marvel will also be back to give fans a preview of things to come at the limited-entry “Hall M” exclusive showcase.
Legendary mecha designer and Macross saga creator Shoji Kawamori will also be in attendance for a workshop session, as will book artist Artgerm, cosplayer Jin, and professional makeup studio NYX.
Cosplayers will also be on deck to compete in the annual CAGE cosplay competition – with guest judges that include the aforementioned Jin and Haiden Hazard, Canvas Cosplay, Pion Kim, Myrtle Sarrosa, and Philippine Cosplay Queen Alodia Gosiengfiao. — LA, GMA News
