Two more shops of the famous Dumaguete's Sans Rival will open in Metro Manila
Good news, silvanas lovers: Dumaguete's Sans Rival Cakes and Pastries is now in Metro Manila!
The cakeshop, known for its silvanas and sans rival cake, opened its first-ever branch in the capital Wednesday last week at Glorietta 4 in Makati City.
Two more branches will be opening this month: one at the Shangri-La Plaza in Mandaluyong City this week, and one at Robinson's Magnolia in Quezon City on April 21.
"It's a stepping stone for us in our expansion plans. After 41 years in the business, it's about time," Trinidad Sagarbarria Bustamante, managing director of Sans Rival Food Development Inc., told GMA News in an interview.
Only Sans Rival's core products, such as silvanas and sans rival, will be available in Manila. They will be made all the way from Dumaguete and will be shipped on a regular basis.
Soon, a number of their cake and pastry products will also be available, but baked from the capital.
They originally planned a soft opening, but when Manila-based Dumaguete native Joshua Ryan Salaveria posted a photo of their Glorietta branch on Facebook, news of their Manila expansion immediately went viral.
Bustamante said she they were surprised with the instant exposure they received on their Manila opening, but are pleased to know that Manileños have come to love their products.
"We have always carried Dumaguete in all our outlets. It is where we come from, it is who we are, and we are immensely proud of it," Bustamante said.
This is, however, not the first time Sans Rival brought its famous silvanas outside Dumaguete shores; it also has a branch in Robinson's Galleria in Cebu City.
Sans Rival, a corporation owned by the prominent Sagarbarria family, started in 1977, when Trinidad Teves Sagarbarria started making confections for her family and her friends. More than four decades on, its silvanas are so renowned that they have become Dumaguete City's trademark delicacy.
Aside from Bustamante, other well-known members of the Sagarbarria family include former Dumaguete mayor and incumbent Negros Oriental Second District Representative Manuel "Chiquiting" Sagarbarria. — LA, GMA News
