Paolo Contis hopes to raise his daughter with LJ the 'old school' way
Paolo Contis said he hopes he could raise his daughter with his girlfriend Kapuso actor LJ Reyes the "old school" way.
"I just hope we could raise the baby na mas old school nang kaunti, masyado akong kinakabhan sa...ayokong tirahin 'yong millennial term eh," Paolo told GMA News Online during an interview at the press conference of his new film "Through Night and Day."
Even though he believes that men and women are equal, Paolo believes that women should be "respected more."
"'Yong equality ng babae at lalaki, may hangganan 'yon. Women and men are the same when it comes to — they could work, they could ano, but I think women should be respected more, women should be treated right," Paolo said.
For instance, Paolo believes women deserve to be courted just like the old times. It's something he would want his daughter to experience in the future.
"They [women] deserve to be courted, na feel ko sa panahon ngayon baka feel nila 'di na kailangan. Para sa 'kin sana ma-experience ng anak ko 'yon," he said.
But even with such hopes for their daughter, Paolo said it will still be her daughter's decision.
"'Di mo puwedeng pakialaman ang bata, lalo 'pag tumanda. Ang puwede mo lang naman ibigay is good values and hopefully she could fear God," he said.
Despite thinking about giving her daughter space when it comes to making life decisions, he said he would still step up should anyone dare hurt her daughter.
"Siyempre ayaw mo lang may mangyaring masama. Ayaw mong may mang-gago sa anak mo. Makakapatay ka naman talaga," he said.
When entertainment reporters asked if he feels excited for their coming new bundle of joy, he said he's both thrilled and nervous.
"Pareho lang sa 'kin ang excitement, meron lang kaba kasi matagal na akong di nakakahawak ng sanggol eh," he said.
Paolo said he and LJ took a new born class to prepare for their baby girl.
"Nag-class nga kami ni LJ. Nag-new born class kami two weeks ago kasi iba na eh, alam mo iba, ang layo ng gamit ng mga babies, ibang iba, pero sabi ko nga kahit si LJ kinakabahan magkaroon ng baby eh," he shared.
Despite his doubts, he believes he will be able to handle taking care of her daughter.
"Kasi parang 'alam ko pa ba, marunong pa ba ako?' Kasi the fact na 'yong instinct, siyempre 'yong love mo sa bata, 'you will never hurt your own baby, I think it's there kaya 'yan."
LJ is expected to give birth in January 2019.
He said he hopes to take a rest by then to be able to focus his time on LJ and their daughter.
"Hopefully by January, I could rest so I could take care of them. Masaya kasi madaming nakasuporta eh, maraming well-wishers, maraming nag-aalaga samin, daming excited for us," he said. — LA, GMA News
