It’s official: The 47th Miss Intercontinental pageant will be held in the Philippines on January 26.

The country’s representative Karen Gallman of Bohol told GMA News Online during the press launch on Thursday that although she was excited about perhaps exploring a new culture, being the host candidate also has its perks.

“To be honest, I was really looking forward to going overseas and experiencing a different country, but I think it is an advantage that Miss Intercontinental will be here because I have the support system here,” Karen said.

The Boholano beauty queen added that having her family in the audience will also be a boost for her. Karen’s Australian fiancé Ian Garton and his family will also be flying in to watch her compete.

The 47th Miss Intercontinental coronation night will be held on January 26, 2019.

The Philippines' predecessor as pageant host was Egypt, which held the 2017 Miss Intercontinental on January 25 this year. Katarina Rodriguez finished first runner-up to Mexico's Veronica Salas Vallejo.

Spotlight on local designers

Miss Intercontinental Japan CEO Leonisa Miyamae also announced that the 80 candidates will be participating in a Filipiniana Night and a Philippine Designers Night.

The candidates will be wearing gowns submitted to a special competition open to “province- and chartered city-based fashion designers who are good, but are unheard of in Manila,” she said.

The winning designer will receive a plaque of recognition and a $1,000 cash prize.
