Miss World hopeful Winwyn Marquez realizes what her purpose is
Kapuso actress and Miss World candidate no. 9 Winwyn Marquez may be all that — beautiful, tall and talented — but she is a woman who works with a purpose.
At the press presentation of Miss World candidates at New World Hotel in Makati on Monday, Winwyn shared her realizations in her journey and the advocacy she's focused on now.
"A lot of realizations, to be honest, kasi we had a lot of workshops, we had a lot of interviews and it made me realize who I am more, sa totoo lang 'yung 'beauty with a purpose' mas na-realize ko na 'yun talaga 'yung purpose ko, to advocate, 'yung advocacy of education, 'yun talaga," she told GMA News.
She also said that teachers, who backed her up during tough times, have inspired her to be like them. The beauty queen added her heart is set on teaching and helping children.
"I was really inspired by my teachers, sabi ko nga I was doubting myself before, feeling ko mag-gi-give up na ako [but] my teachers were there to bring me up and I want to be like them. I want to help the children din na merong tao na hindi sila pababayaan and I'm here. Gusto ko maging teacher nila, gusto kong turuan sila and andito ako ngayon para i-advocate sila. We have to share our knowledge, we have to share our time for them," she said.
On Instagram she said, she was grateful to have the opportunity to share a little insight about her advocacy to the press, she pointed out that joining a pageant is not just about the glamorous looks and doing the perfect walk, but it mainly concerns about how one can lend a hand to the society.
"I was really happy that the press were also curious about my advocacy that focuses on education. I tried my best to share a little insight and that joining this pageant is not all about how you look, how you walk etc.. it goes beyond that.. its about using this kind of opportunity to actually let people know that they can also be a part of something that can help make a difference in the society."
On the other hand, when she was asked about what it's like to join a pageant with everyone knowing the fact that she came from a well-known family she said it shouldn't matter.
"Hindi na importante 'yung factor na we came from a showbiz family, because we're all fair, lahat dito fair ang labanan," Marquez said.
Marquez is the daughter of actress-politician Alma Moreno and actor Joey Marquez.
Apart from the Miss World Philippines title, three other crowns including Reina Hispanoamericana Filipinas 2017, Miss Multinational 2017 and Miss Eco Philippines 2017 are also at stake.
