Festival of Lights among int’l travel site’s ‘spectacular Christmas lights around the world’

Aside from having the longest Christmas celebration in the world, the Philippines has earned another holiday-related stripe. This time, a garden in the country's central business district is among an international travel site's "favorite places to see holiday lights."

The Festival of Lights at Ayala Triangle Gardens in Makati City got a spot on Condé Nast Traveler's list of "Where to See Spectacular Christmas Lights Around the World."

There are only seven places that made it to the list. The six others are:

  • Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen, Denmark;
  • Champs-Elysées in Paris, France;
  • Somerset House in London, United Kingdom;
  • Silver Dollar City in Missouri, United States of America;
  • Kobe Luminarie in Kobe, Japan;
  • Christmas Market in Jena, Germany

Condé Nast Traveler described Ayala Triangle Gardens as a "natural haven with a diverse population of trees, including kamuning, golden palms, and fire trees."

The entry also said, "The gardens are a courtyard for the surrounding business district, and started as a way to brighten up the evenings for the workers."

The travel site also noted that Ayala Triangle's synchronized lights and sounds show creates an "immersive holiday experience."

This year, the Festival of Lights is inspired by the Rio de Janeiro Carnival. It runs every 30 minutes from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. from November 12 to December 31. — Trisha Macas/VC, GMA News
