National Artist Napoleon Abueva suffers stroke

Sculptor Napoleon Abueva suffered a stroke last Thursday, according to University of the Philippines Professor Ruben Defeo.

In a post on his Facebook account, Defeo said that Abueva, 84, was brought to the National Kidney Transplant Institute, where he was kept in intensive care until Monday.

According to Defeo, Abueva's daughter Amihan said the artist is responding well to medication.

"The family is requesting for musicians to come and visit to stimulate him back. Prayers, of course, remain our best tool to ask for Divine Intervention," Defeo said in the post.

A native of Bohol, Abueva was named National Artist for Sculpture in 1976 at the age of 46. — BM, GMA News
