Lea Salonga is a stunning Goddess of Love in 2018 Tony Awards performance

The cast of the "Once on this Island" revival on Broadway took the Tony Awards 2018 stage by storm and Lea Salonga, a veritable national treasure, made sure she did her character justice.

Lea plays the role of Erzulie, Goddess of Love, who gives the lead characters Ti Moune and Daniel Beauxhomme the gift of human heart.

Originally staged in 1990, "Once on this Island" follows the story of the star-crossed pair as they try to overcome the class divisions among other things that stand in the way of their love.

The musical is based on the novel My Love, My Love; or, The Peasant Girl by Rosa Guy, with music by Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens.

"Once on this Island" bested "Carousel" and "My Fair Lady" for Best Musical Revival in the 2018 Tony Awards and received seven other nominations, including a nod for lead actor Hailey Kilgore (Ti Moune). — Aya Tantiangco/LA, GMA News
