‘Dunkirk’ is a war drama spectacle that deserves attention and praise
There have been several war films and historical pieces that have addressed the brutality and devastation caused by mankind’s own hubris, but rarely do we see a film that focuses on the tension and the suspense when caught in the middle of battle.
Christopher Nolan’s “Dunkirk” does that job brilliantly. It is certainly a movie that takes itself seriously and engages audiences to be transported into that period of early World War II when Allied soldiers found themselves trapped and looking desperately for a way back home.
This film uses all of the tricks seen in Nolan’s previous masterpieces like “Inception” and “The Dark Knight Trilogy,” from using iconic locations to recreating set pieces and battles, using boats, planes, and ships. It really is just another example of brilliant film making.
Much like past Nolan films, “Dunkirk” is a spectacle of cinema that is very deserving of the IMAX format — a technique introduced first with “The Dark Knight” and has since become common practice for his movies and Hollywood.
For viewers and movie buffs who enjoy history, despair, and hope combined into one package — this is the movie that delivers and gets all the praise it deserves. — LA, GMA News
