Writers, artists raise a glass for Nick Joaquin's 100th birth anniversary

Those who know writer Nick Joaquin — either personally or through his texts — would describe him as "shy" and "secretive." He was not fond of being the talk of the town, but, as it was the centennial anniversary of his birth,  Joaquin surely deserves this special event that featured his life and works.

On May 4th, the literary community celebrated the life of the distinguished writer at the Cultural Center of the Philippines. Art inspired by his works were showcased, his love for beer was honored, and the public was invited be reacquainted with his writings as the Penguin Classics edition of "The Woman Who Had Two Navels and Tales of the Tropical Gothic" was launched.
