Lola Nidora’s mansion designed by National Artist, hosted presidents
No one knows if the famous Lola Nidora really did spend her childhood with Adolf Hitler and Charlie Chaplin, but her mansion has apparently welcomed some of the most prominent personalities in Philippine history—for real.
The mansion that became the site of Alden Richards and Yaya Dub's “home date” occupies a whole block on Broadway Avenue in New Manila, Quezon City. It was built by Filipino architect and national artist Pablo S. Antonio in 1935 for Kapitan Pepe and Doña Narcisa “Sisang” B. de Leon.
The house's architecture was inspired by the Spanish Mediterranean style that was then popular in Palm Beach and Beverly Hills, California at the time.
Being one of the most prominent figures of her time—she was head of major film studio LVN Pictures—Doña Sisang welcomed important personalities into her home, including former Presidents Manuel L. Quezon, Ramon Magsaysay, and Elpidio Quirino and their wives.
The heritage mansion has also been used as a location for several films, such as "Dagohoy" in 1953 with Mario Montenegro and Tessie Quintana, as well as photo shoots for clothing brands and magazines.
