Sesame Street YouTube channel hits 1 billion views

"One billion! Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah"

Now that's a number you don't hear every day, not even from the Count.

As of Thursday, the Sesame Street YouTube channel has had over 500,000 subscribers and over 1,000,000,000 video views.

"Thank you for viewing our Sesame Street videos over ONE BILLION times and helping us become the first nonprofit organization to reach this milestone! Count Von Count is very excited about this achievement, so he put together this song for YOU. Help continue our mission of educating children around the world and subscribe to our YouTube Channel," Sesame Street said in a video it made to mark the feat.

As of Thursday afternoon, just a day after it was posted, the Count's video —lasting all of three minutes and 32 seconds— had over 30,000 views.

Meanwhile, a separate article on tech site Mashable quoted Caitlin Hendrickson, YouTubeEDU strategic partnership manager, as saying this is a change from the past when access to educational video was restricted to whatever tapes or DVDs that "happened to be in the library or at home."

"Now high-quality, entertaining, and informative content is available on demand wherever there’s an Internet connection," she said.

"As a result, education is one of the fastest-growing content categories on YouTube and Sesame Street is at the forefront of this growth. Reaching 1 billion channel views is proof of their outstanding leadership in this space and their creative use of YouTube," she added. — TJD, GMA News
