SEEKING ASIA’S BEST SCIENCE WRITERS

The Asian Scientist Writing Prize returns for a second run

The Asian Scientist Writing Prize, Asia’s premier science writing competition, is returning for a second run in 2017. Following the first successful edition in 2015, this year’s competition is focused on how science and technology can help build the region’s future.

Co-organized by Asian Scientist Magazine and Science Centre Singapore (SCS), the Asian Scientist Writing Prize is sponsored by leading science and technology publisher World Scientific Publishing Company and open to anyone working or residing in Asia.

Winners will be selected by an expert panel of judges and awarded their prizes by guest-of-honor Singapore Minister for Education Mr Ong Ye Kung at a ceremony held on July 7, 2017 at SCS. They will receive attractive prizes including prize money, a certificate of recognition, publication in Asian Scientist Magazine, and deliberation for inclusion in the Best of Science Writing from Asia 2017, a book that will be published under the Asian Scientist imprint.

“Science and technology are the key pillars for our country’s growth and have been ranked highly by both government and industry in Singapore. Science Centre Singapore has been promoting and popularizing science via various programs. The Asian Scientist Writing Prize is one such initiative which was rolled out in 2015 to encourage scientific communication among our young. This year, we are pleased to announce three youth prizes designed to recognize and reward young science communicators aged 18 and under,” said Associate Professor Lim Tit Meng, Chief Executive Officer of SCS.

“We are calling on scientists, journalists and the man on the street to come forward and make their voices heard on science and technology issues that will have a profound impact on Asia in the years to come,” said Nanyang Assistant Professor Juliana Chan, Editor-in-Chief of Asian Scientist Magazine.

The competition will be open for submissions from March 1, 2017 till May 31, 2017. More information is available at http://www.asianscientist.com/ASWP.

The Asian Scientist Writing Prize 2017 is supported by the following organizations: Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), Government Technology Agency of Singapore (GovTech), National University of Singapore (NUS), Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT), Singapore Management University (SMU), Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), Science & Development Network (SciDev.net), SGInnovate and National Youth Council (NYC).
