Ashley Ortega, bakit nag-quit sa professional figure skating?

From being one of the mean girls in Dormitoryo at ngayon kapatid ni Max Collins in Kailan Ba Tama Ang Mali kasabay ang isa pang show na ila-launch this March ang InstaDAD, hindi maikakaila na growing ang career ni Ashley Ortega sa showbiz. 

 

Aside from being a teen actress and model, did you know that Ashley was a figure skater? Kailan nga ba nag-start si Ashley mag-figure skate?

 

"I started skating four years old... four years old nagco-compete na ako dito sa Manila pero noong nag-ibang country ako, international, I was six years old back then... after noon six, seven, eight, nine. Nag-Thailand Bangkok, China, Malaysia," sabi ng dalaga.

Not only did she join these competitions abroad, she also garnered honor for the country dahil hindi umuwing luhaan ang teen actress.

 

"Sa Malaysia, nakauwi po ako ng eight gold medals. Kasi all in all, I joined 11 events. Nakauwi po ako ng eight gold medals, dalawang silver saka isang bronze. So ako po 'yung Filipina na pinakamaraming nauwing gold medals," ayon kay Ashley.

 

Learning how to figure skate is not cheap. 

 

Ani Ashley, "Actually ang skating kasi is a very expensive sport kasi kailangan talagang hindi lang isa [ang] coach mo. Kailangan four or five coaches and then sometimes you have to train sa ibang country para mas advance. Kasi dito sa Philippines, dalawa lang ang skating rink natin dito. So kailangang mas advance and kailangan 'yung even the gears, 'yung skate shoes mahal."

 

Since she was winning and had a promising career in figure skating, bakit nga ba tumigil ang teen actress sa pagsali sa competitions? 

 

"One of the problems rin that's why I stopped kasi it was so expensive. Milyon-milyon nagastos. Kasi siyempre 'pag mananalo ka, medal [lang] ibibigay sa 'yo. Hindi talaga tumutulong [ang government]," aniya.

 

Will she ever go back to figure skating?

 

"I stopped figure skating kasi nag-focus ako sa studies ko and sa showbiz. If magco-compete naman ako this year, kailangan kasi everyday training... eh mahihirapan ako. Siyempre I'm focusing more on my career, so siguro I'm gonna buy skates.. .pero competition siguro mahirap... kasi kailangan talaga kung sasali ka ng competition kailangang doon lang ang atensyon mo."

 

Kahit na hindi naipagpatuloy ni Ashley ang pagsali sa international competitions ay hindi naman ito tuluyang tumigil sa pag-practice pa rin ng figure skating. Right now, mas focused ang dalaga sa showbiz career niya.
