GMA Network secures a partnership with Solar Entertainment for Miss Universe 2016 coverage

It’s official! GMA Network and Solar Entertainment Corporation secured the rights to air the live coverage of Miss Universe 2016.

It’s official! GMA Network and Solar Entertainment Corporation secured the rights to air the live coverage as well as the replay of the Miss Universe 2016 pageant happening on January 30 (Monday) at Mall of Asia Arena, Pasay City.
 
The network’s First Vice President for Program Management Jose Mari “Joey” Abacan together with Solar Entertainment’s President and Chief Executive Officer Wilson Tieng formally signed the memorandum of agreement for the broadcasting rights of the international pageant this afternoon, December 15. 


Abacan is all smiles while signing the contract, “We embrace it with open arms that we are going to be airing Miss Universe, especially now that it’s [going] to be held here in Manila. We’re very proud to partner in this project.”
 
The relationship the two networks have is what interests him the most, “I’m very happy because the strength of the partnership with Solar is still beginning to grow stronger [and] better. Hindi lang kami magka-partners sa boxing, pati sa beauty pageant magka-partner na [rin]. I’m sure it’s going to be very successful.”
 
Meanwhile, Tieng looked back and lauded the high ratings of all the Pacquiao fights. “We’re very proud to be [partners] with GMA. We have done so many events, [especially] the biggest fight of them all, the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight. Here we are again, we’re doing the biggest event for 2017, the Miss Universe pageant. We’re looking forward to it.”
 
According to the Solar Entertainment top executive, a series of events will be covered starting January 12 until the coronation day. A strong workforce will be utilized on those dates since those events will happen simultaneously all over the country.
 
“We have to show our best for those three weeks, [and] we have to show what’s the most beautiful in our country [including] the people [at ang] kultura natin. It will be beamed in 190 countries [at] ito ang very rare [and] best opportunity to show to the world kung gaano kagaling ang Pilipinas,” he concluded.
 
The live coverage will be at 8 a.m. via satellite while the replays will be shown at 8 p.m. on ETC and will be aired as well the following week on GMA at 10 p.m. of February 5.
