The Film Academy of the Philippines chooses Jaclyn Jose-starrer 'Ma' Rosa' as official entry to Oscars 2017
The other films that were considered were 'Anino sa Likod ng Buwan,' 'Honor Thy Father,' 'Hele sa Hiwagang Hapis,' 'Pamilya Ordinaryo,' 'Ang Hapis at Himagsik ni Hermano Puli' and 'Tuos.'
The Film Academy of the Philippines (FAP) selected Brillante Mendoza’s acclaimed film Ma' Rosa to be the country’s entry to the best foreign language film category for Oscars 2017.

Produced by Centerstage Productions, the film stars Jaclyn Jose, Julio Diaz, Baron Geisler, Neil Ryan Sese, Andi Eigenmann and Maria Isabel Lopez, among others. Jaclyn’s portrayal of Rosa earned her the Best Actress award in the 69th Cannes Film Festival. She is the first Southeast Asian to be given the recognition.
The other films that were considered were Anino sa Likod ng Buwan, Honor Thy Father, Hele sa Hiwagang Hapis, Pamilya Ordinaryo, Ang Hapis at Himagsik ni Hermano Puli and Tuos.
The seven-man special committee is headed by director Boy Vinarao and includes director Jose Carreon, director Mike Sandejas, actor and scriptwriter Ed Rocha, cinematographer Lee Meily, actor Michael de Mesa and actress Cherie Gil. The deliberation was held on September 14.
