The independent film actress feels that the government lacks support for the arts and culture.

President Rodrigo “Digong” Duterte recently appointed actress Liza Diño-Seguerra as the Chief of the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) in which she feels overwhelmed but excited to fill in the shoes of former Chair Briccio Santos.

“The last few months spent on doing consultations with the arts and culture sector has inspired me so much to be proactive towards addressing the needs of our community,” she posted on Facebook.

The independent film actress feels that the government lacks support for the arts and culture. As the person entrusted by the President, she will “act as a bridge between the sector and the government para lalong maisulong ang pagpapayabong ng pelikulang Pilipino sa ating komunidad.”

She also feels that Filipino films fail to thrive in our country due to the lack of audience, but are gaining recognition abroad. Liza wants to bridge the gap on educating local moviegoers in order for them to support local cinema.

Mrs. Seguerra said she grew up in this kind of industry and she will do everything to lift up its status, “Napakalaki ng potential natin para maging isang creative industry. It would be an achievement to push forward what has been started and move towards creating a creative economy.”
