The actress-model also recounted the moment she was mistakenly crowned as the pageant’s first runner-up in the said show, “[It’s] okay, I made it this far. I’m pretty sure I made my country proud, and that’s good enough for me. I know I did everything I could, I did very well.”
When host Steve Harvey announced that he made a mistake and that the title belonged to her, it felt surreal for Pia. “When he announced that I was in fact the winner, of course I was even more excited! I mean, I joined Miss Universe because I wanted to win, and I finally got it. It took me a long time to get here, it took me three attempts in Miss Philippines to join Miss Universe.”

Many don’t know it, but the newly-crowned Miss Universe cried her heart out upon knowing she won the title, despite the confusion that happened on stage.
“Everything was happening so fast, but backstage I kept asking my manager Esther, ‘Did I really win [or] are they [going to] come back and take the crown from me?’ They reassured me that, ‘Yes, you are the winner. You are Miss Universe.’ That’s when I had my good cry backstage, [and] that’s when it finally [sunk] in,” she said.
The Filipino-German beauty has been busy touring around New York City for guesting and interviews. She described her experience on the show as “exhilarating.”
