An emotional Dennis Padilla spoke on StarTalk last July 2014, expressing his hurt over his daughter Julia Barretto filing a petition to have the actor’s surname Baldivia removed from her legal name.

During the time of the interview, Dennis said that he hasn’t seen his daughter for months and admitted that he hasn’t been able to provide financial assistance for the past three years.
When interviewer Ricky Lo asked him if the petition for name change will strain the status of his relationship with his daughter, he said that there will be hurt, but the love will remain.

“Wala namang [magiging pagbabago sa relasyon]. Siguro magkakaron ka lang ng pain na habang buhay mong dadalhin pero 'yung pagmamahal, pareho pa rin,” he declared.
Padilla, in tears, had a piece of advice for his eldest daughter. “Julia, lahat kayong mga anak ko, mahal ko kayo pantay-pantay. Hindi mo kailangan ‘to. Mas kailangan mo galingan 'yung pag-aartista,” he said.
Things took a turn for the better last Wednesday when the actress, who will be celebrating her debut in two weeks, posted a photo on Instagram with her father.
“Papa being his comedian self,” Julia wrote on her Instagram account.
The two seemed very comfortable with each other as Julia smiled joyfully with her father leaning towards her.
Dennis disclosed that he was invited to attend his daughter’s debut on March 10 and confirmed that he will be attending the celebration.
